NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns 'really thinking over' Alex Mack deal with Jaguars

When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Alex Mack to a five-year offer, they did it knowing they’d have to make it unique enough so the Cleveland Browns wouldn’t match it.

The Browns, for what it’s worth, suggested they would match any offer Mack received in free agency but it appears the unique caveats placed in the deal by the Jaguars (possible front loaded, third year player option, inability to franchise tag) have the Browns ‘really thinking over’ the deal according to Ian Rapoport.

Conventional wisdom was #Browns would match Mack’s offer. Told now they are really thinking it over. No decision. #Jags deal made it tough

‘Tough’ or not, we still don’t know which way the Browns will lean when all is said and done.

What we do know is that Mack, no matter if it’s in Cleveland or Jacksonville, will be making a guaranteed $18 million dollars for the first two seasons of his deal and will be able to opt out of his contract after the second season.
