On Thursday, Nike decided to take some attention off of fans following their decision to raise jersey prices by announcing the release of a special tribute shoe for Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

The special edition “Nike Free Trainer 5.0 NRG” features the gold and red colors from the San Francisco 49ers, where Rice grew to stardom and became the best wide receiver to ever step foot on an NFL field.

From the release:

Over 20 seasons in the NFL, no player embodied the evolution of training quite like Jerry Rice. From his famous workouts in the hills of San Francisco to his punishing gym regimen, Rice pushed his own boundaries so he could push the game’s boundaries every Sunday. His commitment to constant improvement produced the most receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in NFL history. His drive is the spirit behind the Nike Free Trainer 5.0 NRG inspired by Jerry Rice.

The shoe also includes “Rice” on the tongue, with Rice’s No. 80 and his career statistics written inside of the bottom of the shoe.

If you are a 49ers fan or a shoe collector that happens to admire what Rice was able to accomplish in his career, it will be hard to not be tempted to pick up a pair of the shoes.
