Chris Gimenez was on the Texas Rangers Opening Day roster. The next day, Daniel McCutchen was called up and Gimenez was designated for assignment.
Now, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, who speculated that the Athletics would need Gimenez back, has reported that the Rangers have re-signed the catcher. The Athletics’ Stephen Vogt suffered a lat strain Wednesday, prompting the thought that Gimenez could return to Oakland.
The Rangers have re-signed the catcher on a minor league deal as catching depth. He was claimed off of waivers from Oakland in the final week of Spring Training and, after being DFA’d, refused the outright assignment to Triple-A. Now he comes back on a minor league deal and will report to Round Rock.
