South Carolina Football: Why the Gamecocks' defense will be better in 2014 (Video)

Seemingly every year, the South Carolina Gamecocks get closer and closer to becoming a legitimate national title contender. Last season, they finished in the Top 5 after all was said and done, giving them a huge burst of momentum coming into 2014.

However, they’re going to be without some key pieces this season, and one of the more notable subtractions is that of the potential number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft next month, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

But is it possible that, even without the monstrous Clowney, the Gamecocks’ defense could be even better this season as they strive to take things a step further by challenging for the new College Football Playoff.

Whether or not they can pull this off remains to be seen, but there is no questioning the talent that’s on this roster, and a more successful campaign–even without the phenom–is a possibility.
