New York Knicks fans are wondering why Mike Woodson is still the head coach of their basketball team and it appears that we now know why. While there have ben multiple reports over the course of the season that Woodson would be fired, he’s remained in the job and he has owner James Dolan to thank for that.

According to Fran Isola from the NY Daily News, general manager Steve Mills has had his finger on the red ‘eject coach’ button in the Knicks front office numerous times this season but has been stopped at the last minute by James Dolan.

Per the New York Daily News:

"Mills, according to a source, was prepared to make a coaching change on several occasions but didn’t either because the Knicks went on a winning streak or because he was overruled by Garden chairman James Dolan."

This is a perfect example of the type of control Dolan will not have with Phil Jackson in town. It’s unclear if Jackson will ride things out for another season with Woodson or if he’ll fire him and restart. But whatever the future holds, there is now no longer anyone closing the box on the red button for Woodson anymore.
