Poor Tony Campana.
The Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder had a little scare on Thursday night, thanks to some of AT&T Park’s friendly flock of seagulls who decided to play a little trick on the the center fielder.
With the Giants and Diamondbacks tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, San Francisco shortstop Brandon Crawford hit a relatively deep but rather routine fly ball to Campana in center field, but the only problem was, Campana appeared to lose.
Was it the lights? It was certainly the lights, right? Well, it was actually a flock of seagulls flying ball that distracted Campana, who ended up missing the ball as it dropped a few feet in front of him.
This was far from the first time that seagulls have found themselves in the middle of the action at a San Francisco Giants game as they’re a nightly annoyance, especially the later the game runs on.
Thankfully the blunder didn’t hurt Arizona as they were able to come away with a victory in extra innings thanks to Campana who delivered the winning hit.
