T.J. Oshie takes brutal hit to the head vs. Wild (Video)

The St. Louis Blues are the best and hottest team in hockey at the moment but they took a brutal blow on Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild when star forward T.J. Oshie was taken out of the game following a nasty hit to the head.

Oshie left the game when Wild winger Mike Rupp viciously took the Blues star out with what officials almost immediately determined was intent to injure, and assessed a match penalty and was ejected from the game.

It was Rupp’s first game since February 1st and it’s likely to be his last for a while. The NFL is looking into the hit and it would appear to be the type of blow that warrants a lengthy suspension and a fat fine.

For the Blues, Oshie is critical to their postseason success and the Wild may have been making a preemptive strike to take him out of a first round series or more. If Oshie misses significant time it will hurt the Blues more than the Wild as Minnesota can live without Mike Rupp but the Blues may not be able to survive without Oshie.
