Former Chicago Cubs/Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Sam Fuld was designated for assignment today by the Oakland Athletics.
Fuld went from being an unknown player with the Chicago Cubs, to one of the most loved players on the Tampa Bay Rays roster. The 32 year old outfielder made his Major League debut with the Cubs back in September of 2007, but ended up with the Rays from 2011-2013 after he was a piece that brought Matt Garza to Chicago.
The speedy outfielder finished a home run, four RBI’s on top of a batting line of .200/.273/.433 in seven games with the Athletics. Now with Fuld designated for assignment, the Oakland Athletics have activated outfielder Craig Gentry from the 15-day disabled list.
Gentry was added to the disabled list after suffering a lower back strain but appears to be healthy enough to return to the activate roster. He finished with two home runs, 22 RBI’s with a .280/.373/.386 across the line with the Texas Rangers in 2013.
He’ll serve as Oakland’s fourth outfielder on the roster.
