Jones, who played in eight games for the Tigers last season, is at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La., where he is undergoing surgery today.
Winey initially fled the scene was but arrested at his home and charged with attempted murder and is being held on $1 million dollar bond.
Winey is a former LSU player who played offensive tackle for the Tigers and was a sixth round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2001 draft. The Lake Charles, La. native played for the Washington Redskins and New york Giants.
