Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman out 4-6 weeks after suffering fractured thumb against Braves

The Washington Nationals got some news they did not want late Saturday night as they learned that third baseman Ryan Zimmerman will be out at least 4-6 weeks after leaving the game against the rival Atlanta Braves earlier in the evening.

Zimmerman suffered the injury in the fifth inning when he was picked off at second base after recording a double. At first it didn’t seem as if anything drastic had happened, as Zimmerman argued with the umpire about the call. However, he quickly looked down toward the injury and left the game from there as he walked to the dugout under his own power.

This is terrible for the Nationals to lose one of their star players, although with an injury of this magnitude happening right as the year gets underway, they could try and keep things together until he’s ready to return and then make their run from there.

But for now, they’ll have to do without their third baseman.
