NHL Playoffs 2014: Dallas Stars clinch final spot in Western Conference

On Friday night, the Dallas Stars played host to the St. Louis Blues at the American Airlines Center and they came away with the biggest win of their season. Dallas was able to knock off the Blues by a score of 3-0, which clinched the team the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

This is the first time since 2008 that the Stars have reached the postseason.

For head coach Lindy Ruff, the Stars win served as a bit of redemption.

It was just a year ago that the Buffalo Sabres fired Ruff during the season to end his reign as the  longest active-serving coach in the four United States major sports. The Stars gave him another chance, and he came up big for the team this year.

With Dallas’ win, the Phoenix Coyotes were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
