Notre Dame Spring Game 2014: Malik Zaire severely outplays Everett Golson

Saturday’s spring game at Notre Dame provided the first look at Everett Golson in his return to the team after missing last season after an academic suspension. In his second stint with the Fighting Irish, the quarterback who helped lead the team to the BCS National Championship Game in 2012, was severely outplayed by sophomore Malik Zaire.

Zaire threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns in the scrimmage compared to 154 yards from Golson on 13 of 24 passing. Golson also ran for a score, but if anyone thought Golson would step right back into Notre Dame Stadium and assume the starting quarterback job, they are sorely mistaken.

The 6-1, 210-pound Zaire is very much a threat to Golson and this is a battle that should be one of the more interesting ones to watch in the fall.
