Saturday afternoon head coach Brian Kelly and the rest of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish took to the field in South Bend to give fans a sneak peek into what they can expect in 2014 with the playing of their annual spring game.
Here, courtesy of NBC Sports, is a highlight package of the day’s events:
The main story line in this one was the return to the Notre Dame field of quarterback Everett Golson, who missed the entirety of last season due to a suspension for academic-related infractions.
However Kelly has stated that Golson will not just be handed his starting job back, despite helping lead the team to and undefeated regular season and the BCS Championship Game two years ago, and he will have to deal with the competition thrown his way from sophomore Malik Zaire, who showed that he wants this starting job just as much as the former starter.
On the day, Zaire shined by tossing for 292 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-25 passing.
