Oklahoma Spring Game 2014: Trevor Knight not too sharp in Sooners' scrimmage

There are a lot of players coming into the 2014 college football season, but none may have as much of it as Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight. After an up-and-down 2013 campaign in the regular season, he looked near flawless in the huge win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl, giving Sooners fans around the country for 2014.

However, on Saturday Knight and the Sooners hit the field for their spring game, and that hope may have been deflated a little as Knight did not look nearly as good against his own defense as he did back in early January against the Tide.

On the afternoon, Knight finished the game just 5-of-14 passing for 53 yards and an interception. Not what the Oklahoma fan base wanted to see on Saturday, but there is all summer now to improve.

In one other note from the Oklahoma spring game Saturday, Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield finished his afternoon perfect, completing all nine of his pass attempts for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

The only bad news is that, with his transfer, he’s ineligible to step in this season should the regular season version of Knight play like he did today.
