The Penn State Nittany Lions are just a little bit away from taking the field inside Beaver Stadium for their annual spring game, getting the James Franklin era officially kicked off. But before they do that, they received a much coveted distinction as they are now the new number one in the 247 Sports college football recruiting rankings.
On the day of their spring game Saturday, they received a verbal commitment from 4-star defensive tackle Adam McLean out of Bethesda, Maryland, which has now pushed them past Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide for the top billing in the nation.
When Franklin was hired following the departure of Bill O’Brien back to the NFL, everyone had a good idea that the recruiting in Happy Valley was going to get a lot better, but I don’t think anyone expected Franklin to make this sort of impact in just his first three months on the job.
As of right now, Franklin and Penn State now have 12 total commitments for 2015, which includes nine 4-star players and three 3-star standouts.
