The New York Giants are trying to sort out their back up quarterback situation following the news regarding Eli Manning’s surgery this week. It shouldn’t affect the start of next season, but Manning will miss all of the spring workouts probably. The Giants have looked at free agency and taken a look at Matt Flynn and Josh Freeman but are reportedly not interested in Redskins’ Rex Grossman.

“Other than Flynn and Freeman there are very few experienced quarterbacks left on the free-agent market at the moment,” Ralph Vacchiano writes for the New York Daily News. “Rex Grossman, Kevin Kolb and Brady Quinn would seem to be the best of the bunch. According to an NFL source, the Giants have not expressed any interest in Grossman yet. It’s not known if they have any interest in taking a look at Kolb or Quinn.”

None of those names necessarily inspire confidence as a starter, but as a back up and for spring workouts any would do. Flynn seems only able to thrive in Green Bay and Freeman had a rough start after signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
