Larry Brown has quickly turned the SMU Mustangs’ program around.
After barely missing out on the NCAA Tournament and finishing as the runner-up in the NIT, the Mustangs are set to bring in the player Brown believes is the best in the country, 5-star point guard Emmanuel Mudiay.
“It ain’t even close,” Brown told Adam Zagoria of SNY.TV. “He’s 6-5, he can just play. He makes people better, he can defend, he can rebound.
“He’s going to be a lottery pick if I don’t screw up.”
Brown knows there are plenty of other impressive players, but he would take Mudiay ahead of all of them.
“He was the best player,” Brown said. “And I love [Jahlil] Okafor, [Stanley] Johnson and Justin Jackson. There are a lot of great players, but in my mind he’s the best player. And that’s not taking anything away from any of those other kids.”
The 6’5, 190-pounder chose SMU over an impressive list of offers, including powerhouses like the Arizona Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks and Kentucky Wildcats.
He is ranked as the #1 point guard and the 2nd best overall prospect in the class of 2014, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
