Thad Matta’s Ohio State Buckeyes keep getting deeper and deeper with transfers. First it was Temple transfer Anthony Lee, and now the Buckeyes will be adding Virgina Tech transfer, Trevor Thompson.
From a report on ESPN.com, the 7-foot forward, who was also courted by Indiana, Purdue and Butler, has announced his intentions to enroll at Ohio State.
“I love the academics, the fans, my new teammates and the coaching staff. It was the perfect fit.”
Thompson is an athletic forward who has some big play ability. He averaged 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a freshman, but had some pretty impressive games against opponents like Duke and Syracuse.
Under normal circumstances, Thompson — who is the the son of former Major League Baseball player Ryan Thompson — would be required to sit out the 2014-15 season, but he may be able to get a medical waiver from the NCAA due to his father’s health.
