As the 2014 season wears on, the Atlanta Braves might find themselves leaning on their offense more than expected due to some injuries to their pitching staff. That’s not to say that they do not have quality pitching, just that it will likely take some thump from the lineup to match their high expectations.
Second baseman Dan Uggla is coming off a near-historically-bad season in 2013. He batted .179/.309/.362. Uggla is not exactly off to a dynamite start in 2014, as he is batting .195 through 11 games. But on Monday night he delivered his first home run of the year, and in dramatic fashion to boot.
Batting with the bases loaded and his team down a run in the 9th inning, Uggla cracked a game-winning grand slam.
The victory puts the Braves at a 9-4 record for the season. The Phillies fall to 6-7.
