The New York Yankees received a scare on Sunday night, though the belief is all will be fine regarding the finger of catcher Brian McCann.
McCann, the Yankees highly touted offensive (and rather expensive) free agent addition was hit by a pitch that first struck opposing catcher A.J. Pierzynski. The ball ended up grazing the finger of McCann, who could be seen in noticeable pain.
The Yankees backstop was able to remain in the game and finish things out before the team decided to take McCann in for x-ray’s.
Thankfully though the belief is the injury is relatively minor and McCann himself suggests it’s nothing to worry about.
#Yankees C Brian McCann is having an x-ray on his right index finger. He doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about.
Results of the x-ray have yet to be made public, but given McCann’s lack of concern, there doesn’t appear to be any suggestion that the injury will be serious.
It’s possible McCann could miss a game or two but as of now, New York’s day off on Monday will likely be enough time to rest the finger.
