NHL Draft Lottery 2014: Updated odds for No. 1 pick

The NHL season has come to an end and that means the Stanley Cup Playoffs are now upon us. But not everyone is going to be partaking in the playoff glory this year as many teams are already on to next year and the preparations for getting better begin with the NHL Draft Lottery.

We won’t find out who will  be picking No. 1 overall until later this week but with the season being over it appears the odds are now locked in. Here’s a look at the final NHL Draft Lottery odds following the end of the season:

Final Standings

Rank Team % of Winning
1 Buffalo Sabres 25.0
2 Florida Panthers 18.8
3 Edmonton Oilers 14.2
4 Calgary Flames 10.7
5 New York Islanders* 8.1
6 Vancouver Canucks 6.2
7 Carolina Hurricanes 4.7
8 Toronto Maple Leafs 3.6
9 Winnipeg Jets 2.7
10 Phoenix Coyotes 2.1
11 Ottawa Senators** 1.5
12 New Jersey Devils*** 1.1
13 Nashville Predators 0.8
14 Washington Capitals 0.5
Notes* – The New York Islanders must surrender either their 2014 or 2015 first-round draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres as part of the trade that sent Thomas Vanek to New York. The Islanders decide which pick to surrender prior to the 2014 NHL Draft. ** – The Senators’ first-round pick is property of the Anaheim Ducks, who acquired it in a trade for Bobby Ryan to Ottawa.

*** – The New Jersey Devils will receive the 30th overall pick regardless of their final standing as penalty for cap circumvention in signing Ilya Kovalchuk.
