Wisconsin Football: Melvin Gordon ‘hungry’ for National Championship

Melvin Gordon returned to the Wisconsin Badgers for his redshirt junior season and passed an opportunity to be the first running back taken in the 2014 NFL draft, and he did so to win play in the college football playoff and win a national championship, something he uses as daily motivation in the form of pictures in his bedroom.

“Different pictures up there to keep me going,” Gordon tells the Wisconsin State Journal following the spring game on Saturday. “When I wake up, I look at it. Just keeps me hungry.” … “It keeps me grounded, keeps me working,” he said. “It keeps me hungry.”

Gordon has photos of LSU, the team the Badgers face in the season opener, the national championship trophy and of the College Football Playoff logo to fuel him for the upcoming season that has Gordon mentioned as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Wisconsin faces a tough LSU team in the opener, but after that the schedule is fairly favorable for a young Badgers team that only returns nine starters from last year’s 9-4 team.
Wisconsin doesn’t face the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans or Ohio State Buckeyes and they get the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Camp Randall, so if you’re looking for a preseason sleeper to crash the playoff, it very well could be Gordon and Wisconsin.
