Boston Marathon 2014: Man arrested in connection to unattended backpacks at finish line


On Tuesday evening, police evacuated the Boston Marathon finish line after two unattended black backpacks were found on the one-year anniversary of the bombings that took place in 2013.

After the area was placed on lockdown, the packages were inspected and a suspect has reportedly been taken into custody in connection to the backpacks that were found.

The Boston Police Department passed along news of the arrest.

According to ECN’s Kathryn Sotnik, the man below is the person who was taken into custody:

The man who was arrested was dressed in all-black, with a black veil over his head and two giant backpacks. He was also without shoes.

No further details are available at this time, but we will keep you updated as more information on the man in custody becomes available.

UPDATE: Both backpacks were detonated. There is no word on whether or not the contents of the backpacks was dangerous.

 

UPDATE: The man who was taken into custody had a hoax device, which was a rice cooker in his backpack.
