The Sacramento Kings will end their season on Wednesday night and it might be the final time Rudy Gay wears purple and white.
Gay, who was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Toronto Raptors holds a player option for the 2014-15 season and according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, he believes the former UConn star will exercise it.
Rudy Gay has the option to hit free agency in July and I think he is going to use it… so what would it take to get him in Charlotte? — $50 million?
As for trading for him if he opts in… that is something else. I don’t think the Kings would trade Rudy if he opts in.
The small forward is scheduled to make a very lucrative $19 million next season if he does opt-in, however, the 2015 free agent market is likely to be stacked and Gay stands to cash in if he opts out this offseason in hopes of securing a larger deal.
That said, opting out isn’t a suggestion that he’s willing to leave the Sacramento Kings in free agency, but rather looking to stabilize his future.
