Free agent tight end Dustin Keller suffered a serious knee injury last preseason, which has led to teams being cautious about adding him before knowing how healthy he will be for the upcoming season.

More from New England Patriots

Keller’s agent recently said that the tight end should be ready for the start of the 2014 season, which could lead to a team taking a risk and signing Keller at a bargain price.

One of the teams expected to show interest in the former New York Jet and Miami Dolphins is another AFC East team, the New England Patriots.

According to CSN New England, the Patriots are expected to show interest in adding Keller if he remains unsigned following the 2014 NFL Draft in May.

New England has been searching to bolster their depth at the position since the arrest of Aaron Hernandez last offseason, and Keller would be a worthy replacement if he is capable of returning to his pre-injury form.

The Patriots could choose to draft a tight end early in the draft, but if they focus on other needs then Keller would remain an option.
