Padres offered 3-year extension to Chase Headley

Jedd Gyorko will be part of the Padres core for some time, but that’s not to say that the Friars didn’t attempt to lock up another franchise name.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that San Diego offered Chase Headley an extension of 3-years and somewhere in the neighborhood of $33-39 million. The deal was made after the arbitration amount was settled on, but the two sides were reportedly not close on numbers for the extension.

As it stands now, Headley will be a free agent at the end of 2014. He has stated that he does not want to talk contracts during the season, but he has also stated that he would not ask the small-market Padres for anything that would financially handicap them, according to Heyman.

Let him walk, if he wants to walk .

It looks like Chase wants to walk. So be it. See ya Bro. Trade him for whatever we can get. I see him traded by deadline. I used to be a huge Headley fan. Lost that in spring.
