Philadelphia Flyers sign Andrew MacDonald to reported $30 million extension

The Philadelphia Flyers have decided they liked what they got in their trade deadline deal this season, and have signed defenseman Andrew MacDonald to a reported six-year, $30 million extension.

The extension will give the Flyers $21 million of cap room committed to five defensemen for next season.

Does Philly not expect to have the puck in their zone at all over the next few years?

MacDonald, who was acquired from the New York Islanders this season, led the NHL in blocked shots, but had a +/- rating of  minus-22 for the season (minus-3 while with Philly). For the season with the Islanders and Flyers MacDonald had four goals and 24 assists — four assists in 19 games with the Flyers.
