The speculation on who will be the USC Trojans starting quarterback for the 2014 college football season can now be put to rest. After Tuesday’s spring practice, USC head coach Steve Sarkisian named Cody Kessler the team’s starter for the season-opener.

The #USC QB competition is over, as Steve Sarkisian announced after today’s practice that Cody Kessler will open the season as the starter.

Evan Budrovich of the Conquest Chronicle shared some additional comments from Sarkisian that praised Kessler’s performance and attitude on the field.
Sarkisian praised Kessler’s deep ball, leadership and loves the competitive spirit that he brings to practice.

Last season, Kessler recorded 2,968 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions despite some offensive issues that plagued the Trojans when Lane Kiffin was running the show.
