USC Football: QB Max Browne says he won't transfer despite Cody Kessler being named starter

Tuesday evening, USC Trojans head coach Steve Sarkisian came out and officially named Cody Kessler the starting quarterback, beating out redshirt freshman Max Browne for the job. It was a stiff battle that was highly publicized, but between Kessler leading the team to a 10-4 record last season and his play during the spring, he was given the nod over Browne.

With that, many people would expect Browne to immediately seek to sit out for one season and take his talents elsewhere, however not long after the Sarkisian announcement that he had been beaten out, he reiterated his commitment to USC.

Browne did, however, express that he at least hoped the competition would last just a bit longer.

Well, it didn’t, and we knew this much as Sarkisian noted last week that a decision would be coming right around this time.

Now to see if Browne will stick to his decision.

Although I’d like to hear Max more assertive, like “it’s not fall camp yet.” I think he realizes he can still win the job or at least be ready if Kessler gets hurt.

Max is showing maturity. He has four years of eligibility, and HE will be the experienced back-up when the next 5-star, Ricky Town, joins the squad. His day will come, and both Sark and he well know it.

What I’d like to say to Max is this: That’s very solid of you to continue to work and compete as a Trojan. Your day will come and could come sooner than anyone can predict. I distinctly remember a Matt Barkley getting injured and a Max Wittek taking over the starting role. The next year Kessler took over. 3 quarterbacks in 2 years. Things change, injuries happen, nothing is predictable. Keep your grades up, keep improving your game and never stop competing. Do those and you will be at the top in short order.
    FIGHT ON !!!
