Bryce Harper scratched with left quad tightness

In the final moments before the Washington Nationals took the field against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, the team was forced to remove star outfielder Bryce Harper from the lineup.

According to James Wagner of the Washington Post:

Bryce Harper was scratched from the lineup an hour before the start of the game. No reason was provided by the team but he had been dealing with a tight left quad since Friday. He had been receiving treatment on the muscle since then but still played. He left Monday’s game in the seventh inning because of it but started Tuesday and played nearly every inning of the blowout loss. He said the injury is minor.”

A few minutes later it was confirmed that the quad kept him out of the lineup.

This is likely nothing more than a proactive day off to make sure Harper’s injury does not become more serious. The 21-year-old MVP favorite is off to a great start so far in 2014, batting .340/.400/.500 through 13 games with five extra base hits.
