Game of Thrones' Purple Wedding sets a new piracy record

When “Game of Thrones” returned to the air for season four, the show premiered to record ratings. This past weekend, the show brought us the highly anticipated Purple Wedding and fans were once again swarming to see what all of the fuss was about.

While “The Lion and the Rose” did not raise the bar for the series ratings, it was able to break another record.

According to Torrent Freak, the episode was the most pirated show ever.

The show had approximately 1.5 million people download the torrent after it was uploaded, with 200,000 people sharing the file within a matter of hours.

“The tracker reported that 193,418 people where sharing one single torrent. 145,594 had a complete copy of the episode and continued to upload, while 47,824 were still downloading the file. These are unprecedented numbers – never before have 193,418 people shared a single file simultaneously,”  Torrent Freak stated.

HBO is not concerned with the show being pirated, so those numbers should only increase as the season goes on. In fact, the folks at HBO view being the most pirated show as an honor.

We are only two episodes in to season four, so as the action continues to unfold and story lines develop we could see that record continue to be broken.
