When Gary Payton was on the floor, The Glove wasn’t afraid to speak his mind.
Now years into his retirement, little has changed as TMZ caught up with the former Seattle Supersonics guard who dished on a handful of NBA related topics.
In addition to touching on the Los Angeles Lakers struggles, Payton also commented on how he believed Kevin Durant deserves the MVP award over LeBron James this season. But those weren’t the only topics Payton spoke about, somewhat calling out shooting guards who are playing the point guard position.
Payton went on to say that the only ‘true’ point guards that play in the NBA are that of Tony Parker, Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul. The former Oregon State product then went to suggest that players like Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook aren’t true point guards and that we need to ‘ride’ with him because he’s the Hall of Fame talent.
Payton didn’t seem to be taking a shot at their ability, just questioning their point guard skills in comparison to a more traditional point.
It was definitely a rather odd interview to say the least.
