Kole Calhoun placed on disabled list with ankle injury

The Los Angeles Angels committed to Kole Calhoun as their everyday right fielder and leadoff hitter to start the 2014 season. Opinions were somewhat divided on Calhoun and whether or not he was a truly a quality player for that spot or if the Angels were overly persuaded by intangible qualities such as grit.

Off to a slow start (.250/.297/.500), Calhoun will now be out four to six weeks after suffering an ugly ankle injury on Tuesday night.

To fill Calhoun’s spot on the roster, the Angels recalled former Detroit Tigers outfielder Brennan Boesch.

Calhoun joins fellow outfielder Josh Hamilton on the disabled list as the Angels suddenly have to piece together a competent big league outfield.
