With the sudden departure of Cuonzo Martin to take over as the head coach of the California Bears, the Tennessee Volunteers are now in the market for a new head coach to take over their program that just visited the Sweet 16. With the program on such a good rise, they’re undoubtedly looking for a big name with some successful coaching experience.
Is former UCLA coach Ben Howland one of those candidates?
According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, while the possibility is not completely out of the question, it’s a long shot for right now, more or less.
Ben Howland should get a job — but just not sold that Tennessee would be the right fit. Would then depend on his staff.

Howland was unceremoniously fired by UCLA following the 2012-13 season, and it makes absolute sense in this case that his name would come up.
After building the Pittsburgh program up, Howland took over the storied Bruins program and led them to multiple Final Four appearances, although no national championships.
