Samsung has finally announced when it plans to bring phones running on its new Tizen operating system to the public.

While speaking with Reuters, Samsung’s senior vice president of product strategy, Yoon Han-kil, stated that the company is working on bringing “at least two smartphones” to the public this year. The launch of the first phone running Tizen, a Linux-based operating system, is expected by the end of quarter two (July).

The first phone will be a high-end model while the second device will be more for the mid-range users.

Though the company will start pushing out Tizen, as well as more Windows, phones, Yoon stated that the company will continue to push Android as its “main business”. The Tizen and Windows phones will be used for the clientele that Android cannot address.

Samsung already runs Tizen on the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, but the OS on a phone is something that techheads have been waiting to happen for quite some time. Now, it appears as though fans are just a mere couple of months away from seeing it actually be a reality.
