After one winner from “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” was crowned when Chad Laprise edged Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Team Canada teammates Elias Theodorou and Sheldon Westcott were set to face off in the TUF Nations middleweight tournament final.
Both men are strong grapplers who showcased their skills on the mat during the season, so there was plenty of intrigue as we prepared to see who would come out on top.
Round 1: Westcott got off to a quick start and was looking to push the pace early. Westcott immediately got the fight down to the mat and begin working for Theodorou’s back. Westcott easily got in his hooks, but Theodorou got back to his feet wearing a Westcott backpack. Theodorou was working to control Westcott’s wrists, but Westcott was looking for a standing rear-naked choke. Theodorou was showing some impressive submission defense and eventually shook Westcott off his back and got back to the center of the octagon. Theodorou landed a big knee to the body of Westcott that briefly stunned him, before continuing to land heavy shots while Westcott searched for the takedown. The pace continued to stay at a high level as the round came to an end, with Theodorou looking like the fresher fighter
FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Theodorou
Round 2: Westcott came out in the second frame looking exhausted and Theodorou took advantage of that by showcasing his powerful with a huge takedown. Theodorou continued to poor it on and was completely dominating Westcott in the opening minutes of the second round. Theodorou eventually took Westcott’s back without much resistance, where he began raining down some ground-and-pound. Westcott was able to get to half guard, but he was still getting blasted by Theodorou’s punches and elbows until the referee had to step in to stop the fight.
RESULT: Elias Theodorou def. Sheldon Westcott via TKO (Round 2, 4:41)
