This past Saturday, Cage Warriors put on their 67th event in Swansea, Wales. The card was stacked with MMA prospects and talents that could someday make their way over to the big leagues whether it be the UFC, Bellator, or World Series of Fighting.
On the amateur undercard, fans were treated to one of the rarest and most brutal knockouts in all of Mixed Martial Arts. Just one minute into the Middleweight bout between James Whittet and Will Davies, Whittet landed an upkick flush on Davies’ jaw, knocking him out cold.
Cage Warriors uploaded the knockout to YouTube for fans around the world to see. Check it out in all it’s glory below:
The win moved Whittet to a 3-0 amateur record, all by way of finish.
It has been quite some time since there was an upkick knockout in MMA. The most influential upkick of the last few years has to be Benson Henderson’s upkick on Frankie Edgar at UFC 144. Prior to the upkick, Henderson was losing the bout. After the upkick landed and rocked Frankie, the momentum had changed drastically and Henderson was able to walk away with the unanimous decision and Lightweight title.
