The Minnesota Timberwolves are surprising no one with word that their next head coach will be chosen, in part, by star forward Kevin Love. With Rick Adelman set to step down as head coach to properly care for his ailing wife, the Wolves are going to start looking for a new head coach and Love will be consulted on the matter.

However, according to Darren Wolfson from ESPN1500, the Wolves will not be giving Love final say on who is hired.

This is a wise move all around for the Wolves as they can’t have a defeatist attitude and assume Love is leaving. By including him in the search, they’re extending the first of many olive branches that they hope builds a bridge to an extension.

But not giving Love final say both lets him know that he’s not in control of the team and that they Wolves are preparing for the very real possibility of him leaving. So rather than get stuck with an item that constantly reminds them of their breakup, should it happen, the Wolves will be hiring who they want with consolation from Love.
