Apple preparing Song-ID feature for iPhone

Apple Inc. is planning to reveal a new song-discovery feature in a future update of it’s iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad, according to Bloomberg.  The app will allow users ID a song and its artists right from their device.

The company is said to be working with Shazam Entertainment Ltd. on the new feature. Shazam already has an app that allows its users to quickly find out the name of a song and the artist by using a phone or tablet’s microphone to collect song data.

Apple is expected to show its new operating system, iOS 8, at its developer conference that runs from June 2-6 in San Francisco. The new Song ID feature is expected to be featured in the showing.

Mike’s Musings: This feature, while already available via the aforementioned Shazam App, could be extremely useful provided you don’t have to open a separate program to ID the song. The load time of opening an app can be the difference between finding out the name of that catchy song, or going nights without sleep thinking about it.
