NHL Playoffs 2014, Bruins vs. Red Wings final score: Detroit shutouts out Boston 1-0

Tonight’ game between the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins did not go as it was expected to go, as not only did the Bruins fall in Game 1 in front of a home crowd, but they were done in by the elite goaltending by Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard.

Last year we saw the Bruins ride Tuukka Rask to a Stanley Cup appearance but they were betrayed by the power of a hot playoff goalie as Howard looked even better than he did in last year’s postseason. This could all be just one hot game, but it could also be the start of the next big run by a goalie in the postseason and after watching Howard in net it’s not hard to imagine that being the case.

There was one specific series of save that Howard made in the final minutes of the game that prove just how vicious he is in net. There were about there or four prime scoring chances for the Bruins right in front of a sprawled out Howard and he still managed to swat away every single one.

Howard ended up with 25 saves on 25 shots for Game 1 and was rewarded by Pavel Datsyuk who got the game winning goal in the final minutes of the game.

Boston is still capable of special things, but we saw in Game 1 that so too is Jimmy Howard and he’s been unstoppable through one game.
