Albert Pujols blasted a three-run home run as the Los Angeles Angels poured it on against the Detroit Tigers Friday night. Ultimately the final score was 11-6 in favor of the Angels, as Howie Kendrick also pitched in two home runs for the Halos.
As for the shot from Pujols, it was the 497th of his career. With that comes the reminder that he is approaching a significant milestone, something that frankly feels like it will sneak up on quite a few people. Video of last night’s line drive shot below.
Pujols’s tenure with the Angels has been a disappointment. That has been true in terms of the team’s success and his individual output. You could reasonably argue that we have lost track of Pujols’s greatness as a result. At age 34, his 500th home run will likely be one of a number of Hall of Fame worthy accomplishments which he will pass in the coming seasons.
Even if he is no longer the guy who once dominated the league as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, we would be wise to appreciate Pujols as he writes his name into the record books.
