The defending SEC Champion Auburn Tigers hit the field inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday afternoon for their annual spring scrimmage in front of over 70,00 fans, and offensively, the Tigers did not disappoint as the Blue Team (made up primarily of the starters) destroyed the White team, 58-3.
One of the biggest questions coming into this one was who would take over for the departed Tre Mason, who set the tone offensively last season in the backfield as the Tigers marched toward the SEC title.
Well, both Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant answered the call, however it was Grant that had the biggest impact when all was said and done.
Grant finished his afternoon with 128 yards on just five carries with one touchdown. He showed sort of that same explosiveness that Mason exhibited last season, only with a little more burst, as hard as that may be to believe.
Artis-Payne definitely stated his case, though, to be the featured back in this offense as he notched 97 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown.
As for returning starting quarterback Nick Marshall, we were all wondering how much he would have improved from last season in the passing game, and he put that on full display in this outing in leading the Blue team to the blowout, finishing 13-of-22 for 236 yards with four scoring tosses.
