Chicago Cubs to draft Carlos Rondon with their first pick?

We’re only a month and a half away from the Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft and the lovable losers from the North Side of Chicago have the number four overall pick.

There’s no doubt that the Cubs need to select a pitcher with their first round pick. It doesn’t matter if it’s a starting pitcher or a relief arm, they need all the help that they can get. Now according to Bruce Levine on Twitter, Cubs President Theo Epstein will watch top prospect Carlos Rondon pitch on Friday.

They could really use a dominate left-handed pitcher with their organization and only have three lefties on the big league roster. Right now Carlos Rondon appears to be a long-shot, as he’s projected to be a top five pick in the draft. I will be very surprised if he’s available when it’s time for the Cubs to make a selection.

    Two things:

1). It’s Carlos Rodon, not Rondon like Hector.

2.) You never draft based on need. You draft on BPA, or Best Player Available. Right now it looks like the BPA will be a pitcher, but it won’t be Rodon for one simple reason, he won’t make it to #4 without something major happening. Also, you never take a relief arm with the 4th overall pick.

1st. are we notified when we are answered? 2nd. If the Cubs need pitching, why do they trade proven pitchers for a “pig in a poke?” They need to add a couple of Monster hitters. When a pitcher like Jeff S. can’t win a game then Theo take your head out of your butt and look around, Little Tommy spend some $ you are making a ton and you know it.
