Alex Gonzalez released by Tigers

The effect of the Doug Fister trade has just about come full circle now.

Having acquired Steve Lombardozzi (and others) from the Nationals for Fister, the Tigers then traded him to Baltimore in exchange for veteran shortstop Alex Gonzalez. Sunday morning, the Tigers announced that Alex Gonzalez was granted his unconditional release. From how Jason Collette of FanGraphs and ESPN states it, it sounds like it was largely the Tigers’ decision.

Gonzalez played in nine games with Detroit, hitting just .167/.219/.233, while sitting at a -5.0 Defensive Runs Saved, making three errors in 31 chances.

The Tigers also announced that they have brought up Danny Worth, and it is believed he will platoon with trade acquisition Andrew Romine.
