There’s been some bad blood between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers already this season, but things completely boiled over on Sunday afternoon – much of it thanks to outfielder Carlos Gomez.
The speedy and rather powerful outfielder has been the center of controversy before thanks to his showboating ways and not shockingly, those ways ended up sparking a benches clearing brawl between the two teams.
During the top of the third, Gomez hit a towering fly ball to deep center – a ball he thought was a home run. Gomez gave the ball a nice stare down but quickly hit the wheels after it bounced off the wall.
Upon reaching third base, Pirates starter Gerrit Cole could be heard on field mics yelling at Gomez who took offense. Moments later, punches were being thrown and Gomez was ejected for provoking the melee.
Although no punches actually connected (at least from Gomez), the fact some were thrown would likely lead to the belief that Gomez will probably get a day or two off courtesy of Major League Baseball. The same could be said for multiple other players.
