Sigi Schmid’s Seattle Sounders are hitting into form early this season. Against Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA, the Sounders took advantage of being a man up and added to the Goats’ collective misery in their 2-1 win at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. With the win, the Sounders continue their chase of FC Dallas, who currently lead the MLS Western Conference.

Here are six things we learned from the match, followed by player ratings, between Chivas USA and the Seattle Sounders.

1. Erick Torres keeps his hotstreak alive

No one can stop Erick “Cubo” Torres from scoring. Well, there are exceptions, like the Los Angeles Galaxy, but that’s beside the point. Osvaldo Alonso conceded a penalty just three minutes into the match, and Torres converted with cool and calm precision for goal number six.

2. Lamar Neagle makes Dan Kennedy pay

Dan Kennedy is a goalkeeper on a bad team. But this goal conceded to Lamar Neagle was all on Kennedy for the howler. Watch how Kennedy muffs the save, and Neagle finishes it in the 25th minute.

3. Marco Delgado sees red after brain explosion

Chivas continued to kick themselves in the 73rd minute, when Marco “Mikey” Delgado received a red card for a dangerous tackle on Gonzalo Pineda that actually looked more worthy of a yellow. Of course, some of you Seattle fans may argue it’s fair, but tell us what you think in the comments section.

4. Obafemi Martins slams door shut

Leave it to Oba. The eponymous Obafemi Martins slammed the door shut thanks to a sweet assist from Clint Dempsey and a chip of Kennedy, adding to the goalkeeper’s misery. Watch this.

5. Sounders win a number of stat categories

If you take a look at the stats, Seattle won a number of categories to make this just another game on the road for the Dallas-chasing Sounders. Categories include open play crosses, duels won, total passes and possession.

6. Clint Dempsey doing it right for Seattle

But this game was all about Clint Dempsey. Here is a player warming up for some work in Brazil at the world cup, and he put on a great show, this time as a provider. Press the right arrow twice to see what rating we give the Deuce.
