After being dominated for five rounds by Fabricio Werdum in a No. 1 heavyweight contender match, Travis Browne watched his chance at a title shot slip away and learned that he could be on the shelf for an extended period of time.
During the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White announced that Browne suffered a broken hand during the fight and he may have also suffered from a fractured rib.
If Browne suffered a broken rib, it would explain why he became so gassed after the opening frame.
Werdum was able to have his way with Browne on the ground, but what really surprised everyone is how the Brazilian was able to dominate the striking after surviving an initial rush from Browne.
With his win, Werdum earned the opportunity to face off against current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez later this year in an event that is being targeted for Mexico.
