San Francisco 49ers back up running back LaMichael James isn’t present for the start of the team’s voluntary offseason conditioning program, according to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco who cites a source. It isn’t too surprising considering the work outs are voluntary and there are reports that the 49ers have been shopping James.

Nothing has come into play yet for James and a trade doesn’t appear to be near. Part of that could be the little value there is for James and according to ESPN’s Mark Dominik, the 49ers might only be able to get a sixth or seventh round pick for James. James was a second round choice in the 2012 draft.

James could wind up being released if no trade is worked out and he might prefer that at this point. He is buried on the depth chart behind Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Marcus Lattimore.
