Tuesday night, Major League Baseball features a giant schedule with all 30 teams in action under the lights with several marquee matchups featuring division rivals.  The Red Sox host the Yankees in the biggest ticket matchup, but the Reds-Pirates and the Rangers-Athletics series will also have plenty of intrigue.  If you’re a fantasy owner, there are opportunities on the waiver wire for a snatch and start if you need a fill-in or an early week boost.  Also make sure to remember that many of these Tuesday starters will pitch again during this scoring period on Sunday making them carry that much more value if you do decide to hold them.

If you’re streaming starters or just looking to improve your rotation, check back each afternoon for my starting pitcher pickups (archive here where you can also set a bookmark for the daily updates). You can also see how my past picks have fared on the final slide of the post.  All of my selections are available in at least half of ESPN leagues and their ownership percentage is included in parentheses.

Here are my picks for this Tuesday, April 22:

Kyle Gibson-Minnesota Twins (14.8%)

After barely making the team as the fifth starter, Gibson is off to an eye-opening start for Minnesota highlighted by a great start his last time out.  Despite a gametime temperature of just 31 degrees, Gibson dominated the Blue Jays for eight scoreless innings allowing just four singles and no walks while striking out four.

Last year, Gibson struggled in the Majors but is off to a great start with a ERA of 0.93 and a 3-0 record for the Twins as they take on the Rays in Tampa on Tuesday.  Gibson will be opposed by David Price, so don’t count on much run support from the surprising Minnesota lineup.  Gibson is still a solid start though as he looks to turn a hot start into a truly breakout campaign.
