In a move that should surprise no one, the New York Knicks have fired head coach Mike Woodson on Monday. The news was first passed along during the final moments of ESPN’s “Mike and Mike in the Morning.”
Woodson reportedly had a face-to-face meeting with team president Phil Jackson and was informed of his firing. Woodson will still be paid through next season.
The writing was on the wall in recent days with the Knicks conducting their exit interviews with players without the coach present. ESPN had previously stated that Woodson was “bracing” for the worst.”
Steve Kerr has been the expected front-runner for the job and he will likely now receive an interview from the team, which is something that Kerr expects and will most likely accept if offered.
Kerr is a former player and general manager who currently serves as a broadcaster for TNT.
